Office 2003, and am up to date on all updates. For the benefit of anyone willing to help, I'm running XP SP3 and I hope someone can tell me (us) appropriate steps for fixing the database/catalog, so that I don't have to down an extra cup of coffee to be extra alert when running Microsoft Update. I assume that the download database or catalog may be damaged if I tell it to install when I know the OFV.cab file and its parent I've scanned the registry for obvious references ("OFV" & "Office File Validation"), but found nothing. Without the desired checkbox to not show me the update - only now, I don't have the folder or file. I still am offered the opportunity to install the update, Unfortunately, I overlooked the possibility that MU keeps a list somewhere of downloaded updates. Thinking just removing the folder would create an option to select the "Don't show me this update again" option, Under Windows\Software Distribution turned up a folder containing a single file (OFV.cab, if I remember correctly - wish I'd done screenshot). I used Add/Remove to uninstall, but my next run of Microsoft Update presented it again, noting that it was already downloaded and just needed to be installed. Robey1626, I share your problem, though I might have pushed it a bit farther. Is anyone experiencing these circumstances and if so, how are you handling it? Thanks. However, in other cases a manual "check for updates" does not list the Add-In so I can't un-check it to prevent it from coming back and then,Īt a later time, it gets installed. The Add-In will be listed and I can un-check it and then check the tick box for "don't show me this update again".
